Netherlands

The Dutch lab is based in an urbanised rural region, where urban expansions threaten the future of rural areas. However, this offers opportunities for green, recreational, and ecological services, and for nature and landscape conservation for agriculture. Farm women lead on more ecological agriculture but fail to be recognised in the mainstream. Rural women contribute to the maintenance of village halls, civic transport initiatives and care cooperatives. This Lab will work to identify the specific socio-ecological innovation needs of farm women and rural women in an urbanising countryside, and the opportunities to combine their efforts in assuring both the future of agriculture and the viability of rural areas.
